| Kristopher Kubicki of AnandTech got to play with a W2100z. <URL:http://www.anandtech.com/systems/showdoc.aspx?i=2255> | When Sun made their first announcement that they were going to embrace | AMD's x86_64 push for practical desktop 64-bit computing, we were | excited. Then we started hearing details about Solaris 10, Looking | Glass, Sun Java Desktop System and countless other new technologies to | catapult Sun back into the workstation market, even if they weren't | going to use those incredible SPARC processors exclusively anymore. | When Sun approached us for an opportunity to check out their newest | dual Opteron 250 based performance workstation, we had to oblige! I think there must be at least 7 on the one page. I gave up trying to read your article, as I was fed up with the animations. I'm sure I can turn them off in my browser, but I (along with many others), just ignore web sites that just want my attention all over the place. Perhaps you will post it as text, and I'll read it, but I cant be bothered to read your web site. David Kirkby. |

To be fair, John didn't write the review he referenced, and (AFAIK) is not affiliated with the web site that carries it (the review). But yes, the animations ARE annoying! -- Rich Teer, SCNA, SCSA, author of "Solaris Systems Programming" President, Rite Online Inc. Voice: +1 (250) 979-1638 URL: http://www.rite-group.com/rich |

I see no flashing images or animations. But then I have not installed any of Macromedia's crap nor will I :-) You could also have clicked on the "Print this article" link after the first page of text. |

I never got as far as finding that - I decided the site was too annoying, and left. Once again, I'm sorry I incorrectly assumed the original poster was connected with the web site. |

Of course I use privoxy. :-) I do see static checkerboard boxes instead of ads, and blank fields labeled with: "Privoxy blocked http://ad.doubleclick.net/adi/N2465....z=160x600;ord=. See why or go there anyway." http://www.privoxy.org tim |

That is actually a reasonably good site to find out about new hardware despite the annoying ads. BTW, I have *never* seen a useful application of Flash. Information which cannot be presented in HTML and JPEG is hardly useful. |

We are entitled to our opinions and Usenet is a legitimate place to express them. No need to spend a dime. |

I applogise to John then. The web master of they site wants shooting. It was almost as annoying as yesterday when I wanted to find some data on the population in England. I found a UK govenment web site having data only in the propietry format of a US company (Excell). http://www.statistics.gov.uk/STATBAS....asp?vlnk=8618 > But yes, the animations ARE annoying! I'm glad I'm not the only one. The odd little animation I find acceptable, but that was well OTT. |
