| Hi, I am getting a lot (well, once a day) of memory errors of the type Jan 18 22:59:20 vanguard SUNW,UltraSPARC-II: [ID 249603 kern.info] [AFT0] Corrected Memory Error detected by CPU2, errID 0x001268b5.0de7f7f4 Jan 18 22:59:20 vanguard AFSR 0x00000000.00100000<CE> AFAR 0x00000000.f113e6f8 Jan 18 22:59:20 vanguard AFSR.PSYND 0x0000(Score 05) AFSR.ETS 0x00 Fault_PC 0x100257b4 Jan 18 22:59:20 vanguard UDBL Syndrome 0x8a Memory Module U0403 Jan 18 22:59:20 vanguard SUNW,UltraSPARC-II: [ID 553751 kern.info] [AFT0] errID 0x001268b5.0de7f7f4 Corrected Memory Error on U0403 is Persistent Jan 18 22:59:20 vanguard SUNW,UltraSPARC-II: [ID 283838 kern.info] [AFT0] errID 0x001268b5.0de7f7f4 ECC Data Bit 55 was in error and corrected and since it's always U0403 and almost always bit 55, I suppose that that memory chip is broken and need to be replaced (the machine is a Enterprise 420R with 4GB of memory). However, sunsolve lists 5 different 256MB memory chips here: 501-4743 501-5936 501-6005 501-6056 501-6718 (I suspect we have 501-5936, but am not sure). Can I mix and match them (they are all 256MB 5V ECC 60ns DIMMs)? How much are they (I couldn't find any price on Sun's web site)? Also, since that machine doesn't have a hardware support, what would be roughly the cost of calling a Sun technician to bring the chip and replace it (all that in NY)? Is that doable, or do we need to have a hardware support contract for that? Thanks and bye, Dragan -- Dragan Cvetkovic, To be or not to be is true. G. Boole No it isn't. L. E. J. Brouwer !!! Sun Service might be able to sell you a "replacement chip" at another price. They will gladly come and replace the chip on a 'time and material' basis. Since the E420 is very fragile when it comes to memory I would sleep better letting a Sun service engineer help out. Call up Sun Service and explain your predicament. /wfr Fredrik -- Fredrik Lundholm dol @ ce.chalmers.se |
