| Greetings, i have an opportunity to buy Ultra Sparc 10 at bargain price but it comes with only 128 Mb memory and 9Gb SCSI Hd. Plan to install Sol 9 but 128 mb seems too slow to go with it. Is it true that Ultra 10 uses ordinary PC SDRAM, that is 133 Mhz SDRAM ram ? what RAM type can it take , 64, 128, 256 Mb ? thanks in advance |

No, the U10 takes ordinary EDO DIMMs but no SDRAM. EDO DIMMs were common with old PowerMacs (Pre-G3 aera) and PentiumPro computers... > what RAM type can it take , 64, 128, 256 Mb ? AFAIR the max. it can address is 4x128MB... Benjamin |

You can get 256MB sticks for these systems. -- Barry Keeney Chaos Consulting email barryk<at>chaoscon.com "Rap is Square Dancing gone terribly, terribly Wrong...." |

EDO is just the type of memory (means: which ICs are soldered on the stick), SIMM and DIMM are the mechanical formats (circuit boards)... EDO RAM used in PCs usually was in SIMM format (PS/2 format to be more precise). EDO _DIMMs_ were only used for a short period in standard PCs (PPro and very early PentiumII with i440FX chipset) and a bit longer in some PC server models (i.e. HP LH4 series)... Benjamin |

You can use some 3rd party 256Mb DIMMs for a max of 1Gb if they are no higher than the Sun 128Mb type. -- My real address is crn (at) netunix (dot) com WARNING all messages containing attachments or html will be silently deleted. Not if you yank the floppy 8-) Somebody make me a decent offer on a U5 with 9Gb disk and 1 Gb ram. Kean |
