| They still haven't even published the system handbook for the Ultra45. And now you are asking for future products ? ROTFL, we are still talking about Sun. http://www.heise.de/bilder/72072/0/1 tells mid 2006 but this is not a Jonathan Schwarz roadmap. Maybe he changed priorities. |

| With the release of the ultra 45 I think its going to be a while. The ultrasparcIIIi+ seem to be about as the v445 and v2[1|4]5 patches are about, so they could turn up in the summer. The workstation is a bit more worrying, like theres no gfx to put in it since 3dlabs have pulled out. With a miracle the boys at sun may get a clue and go to nvidia, which would probably shelf the workstation 6-8months, and get some competative stick in that deptartment. |

| They stopped all cards appart from the xvr-2500. Which is a bit of a git for anyone no using the ultra 45. bit worried about the drivers for the xvr-2500 as there coming in a lot quicker than the xvr-600/1200 series, and now the manufacture has pulled out, never good. I think they will be winding down there PC cards as well. Creative (Parent company) was not happy with 3dlabs profits so it is taking them to embeded systems. So were only left with two 3d WS cards manufactures, oh joy..... |

I had asked about that earlier - Alan Coopersmith specifically said that while development of new cards was stopped, production of current cards (i.e. the xvr-2500) was still underway. Depending how attentive Sun was when they negotiated the purchase of the xvr-2500, there may be a clause that states 3dlabs/Creative *has* to keep producing the cards or face a penalty (mind you, this is sheer speculation on my part). I did get the impression that Sun is actively looking into alternatives for the Sparc WS lines. *cough* Shouldn't *cough* be that difficult to port the x86 drivers to Sparc - though there is the issue of open boot code needed for the Sparc boards. The news about the V215/245/445 is encouraging and remember that the V210/240 came out well before the SB1500/2500. - Erik |
