| I had to move the 280R inside the office: not rackmounted it's just on the table and its noise drives me crazy. It is 80 dB: and they ask me to keep the door closed so that the noise drops below 70 dB in the next room! Is there a noise-reduction rack or something? Any suggestion? TIA Ale |

I don't think so; they ARE designed for data center (rather than office) use, after all! -- Rich Teer, SCNA, SCSA President, Rite Online Inc. I always thought that the F280R server and the B2000 workstation used the same motherboard. If so, maybe a conversion is possible? Certainly not cheap, but the B2000 must be intended to not bother much in office environments? [Only B2000s I've ever seen run rendering software in a print room - now, these printers aren't exactly silent either, so I've never heard how much noise a B2000 creates. It will also remain a mistery to me why these headless B2000s have to be physically close to the printers and not actually be F280Rs in the server room next door.] |

Certainly not They do share the same motherboard, so I don't see why a conversion wouldn't be possible. > heard how much noise a B2000 creates. Yes, and some of its features, like double power cords are still appreciated and needed. I think the 280R still suits me better than a Blade 2000 would. In general, it is just curious that people cannot use a data center for talking. Perhaps you Americans may waste more room than we would here in Europe ;-) Thanks for your answers anyway (and for your technology, btw) Alessandro Vesely |

Since the Blade X000 and U80 share the same case we might be on to something here! A F280R in a U80 enclosure This must be the cheapest route. /wfr Fredrik -- Fredrik Lundholm dol @ ce.chalmers.se |

My personal view is the fewer people and the less time those people spend in a data center, the better.
