| We have one of the new LSI 53C1030-based dual channel Ultra 320 SCSI adapters to use with a V240. Sun documents that you need at least Solaris 8 7/03 (yes, we need to run Solaris 8 for now) for this adapter. The part number for this is SG-XPCI2SCSI-LM320, BTW. When I boot from our boot server (which has Solaris 8 2/04), the adapter will run in 5 MB asynchronous SCSI mode. If I boot from an internal drive, it runs in Ultra 320 mode. So I thought, OK, there must be some patch on top of 8 2/04 that we need that is on the internal drive but not with 8 2/04 (the system on the internal drive does have later patches installed). So for kicks, I did a fresh install of 8 2/04 on to a second drive, and without any additional patches, I'm seeing Ultra 320 mode! This SCSI adapter is intended to be used with a large RAID5 array, and if we are reloading from backups after a network boot, we'd only see the 5 MB/sec speed. Of course, with RAID5, we'll never have to restore, right? :-) I'd probably just reload /, /usr, and /var, and then boot single user, and from there we can restore the other filesystems. It bugs me, though, that after a network boot we're only seeing 5 MB/sec. Any ideas? -- Jeff Wieland |
