| Hello all. Just a few quick questions: can this drive (i.e., a ST336704LC) work as an internal drive in an old SS20? If so, how? Any particular jumper settings? I just bought one off of eBay, it's not a Sun-formatted drive and I can't use "format" to set the drive up. I can't write the partition info because format complains that the drive isn't formatted. When I try to format it, it fails saying the drive isn't ready. One other point, format also doesn't recognise the drive (i.e., it lists the drive, but it lists it as an unknown drive). I have to configure (e.g., cylinders, heads, sectors/track, etc.) it manually. I don't have a screen dump at the moment because I don't have access to the machine right now. I can provide that later if necessary. Thanks in advance for any suggestions on this matter. -- +--------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | Francis Hartojo SDF Public Access UNIX System http://sdf.lonestar.org | | echo "senapvf@serrfuryy.bet" | tr '[a-z]' '[n-za-m]' | | __________ ___________ | | \ .'-------------------------------------------`. / | +------> | There are two secrets to success in life: | <------+ /_______| 1. | Just noticed that everytime the disk is accessed, these errors get logged in /var/adm/messages: Feb 2 20:57:29 localhost scsi: [ID 107833 kern.warning] WARNING: /iommu@f,e0000000/sbus@f,e0001000/espdma@f,400000/esp@f,800000/sd@1,0 (sd1): Feb 2 20:57:29 localhost Error for Command: load/start/stop Error Level: Retryable Feb 2 20:57:29 localhost scsi: [ID 107833 kern.notice] Requested Block: 0 Error Block: 0 Feb 2 20:57:29 localhost scsi: [ID 107833 kern.notice] Vendor: SEAGATE Serial Number: Feb 2 20:57:29 localhost scsi: [ID 107833 kern.notice] Sense Key: Not Ready Feb 2 20:57:29 localhost scsi: [ID 107833 kern.notice] ASC: 0x4 (LUN not ready), ASCQ: 0x0, FRU: 0x2 Does this mean this is a dead drive? Wouldn't surprise me considering how the drive was shipped. Any explanations and/or suggestions on this problem are greatly appreciated.
