Hi,

.... I received the new 2G RAM for my Blade 150 yesterday and put it in
the machine. The machine comes up fine reporting 2048M of RAM. I just
want to make sure it's really ok and wondered if there's a way to check
it, a piece of RAM test software like "memtest86" for Linux or something
like that.

I'd be glad if someone can point me to such a thing. Thanks very much in
advance.

There is SUNvts to test a machine. It is downloadable from Sun's site.

Just a word of causion. SunVTS refuses to run on my system (U80)
running Solaris 9. Whether this specically effects the U80 or not I
don't know, but I can't get it to run. Someone has pointed out to me
there is a patch for SunVTS, but that patch is not downloadable
without a contract. Hence I've been unable to obtain the patch, so
can't run SunVTS. When I had memory problems, I wanted to run it.

You should also check any messages in /var/adm/messages. You can see I
had a problem during on U3004 during April, which was solved by
Dataram replacing the DIMM.

Hello David,

I guess you are out of luck with your U80, SunVTS runs fine on my old
SS20 under Sol9.
You'd better give it to me, I will run Linux on it ! ;-)

Word has it that this problem will be fixed very shortly, and that the
patch required will be available without a contract within the next week
or two...

It's worth looking at /var/adm/messages too. As you can see, I had a
problem back in April, which thankfully was fixed by replacing a
couple of DIMMs. Over 3 months now since I had a corrected memory
error, so given Sun say about 3/day is acceptable, I think I'm okay.
You can see I did get as many as 1508 errors in one day, but the
system still worked okay.

SunVTS is another option. However, I can't get that to work under
Solaris 9 and since I don't have a support contract, I can't download
the required patch. It's possible it might be fixed if I used a later
version of Solaris, but I can't be bothered to mess about doing that.
