Fred,

We are a small company that is just trying to do some basic research.
Naïvely, we thought we could go directly to UNIX experts and admins to
get some data on usage models. We figured this type of survey was
unobtrusive. As an alternative, we can buy admin and data center
managers names and phone numbers from Harte Hanks and contract with
some telemarketers. In our opinion, this is a bit more obnoxious...but
maybe it is a better way to go...

Bollocks.

You are not getting the number of responses you want because people are
dismissing it as SPAM, which it is, so get over it, and don't come whining
to us because someone quite correctly points out that you are spamming!

This is a prime example of how to lose potential business.
