Who supplies the SCSI DVDs for Suns? Toshiba? I know there's one Toshiba
model that has an issue booting OS CDs.

Basically wondering if most SCSI DVDs work OK.

I seem to have TEACs in all my V210/V240 machines with DVDs. We don't
really have other systems with DVDs, there things may be different.

There aren't many vendors of SCSI based DVDs, especially now-a-days.
I've had zero problems with Pioneer though. They've worked well on my
Sun machines.

The only ones which I have respond:

0,6,0 6) 'TOSHIBA ' 'DVD-ROM SD-M1401' '1007' Removable CD-ROM

to "cdrecord -scanbus"

I've got a SCSI Pioneer DVD drive (this is a slot-in drive, BTW) in an
Ultra 10 that works fine for booting. Scsiinfo -p identifies it as:

glm0: sd6,0 tgt 6 lun 0:
Synchronous(20.000MB/sec) Clean NoTaggedQueuing Narrow
Removable CD-ROM: PIONEER DVD-ROM DVD-305 1.00 [S]

Yamaha do a SCSI to IDE interface card that piggy-backs onto their CD and
DVD IDE-bus drives, allowing them to be used as full SCSI drives. I don't
know if this interface converter works with drives from other makes or how
well these converter/drive combinations work in Suns but it works fine
under FreeBSD on an x86 PC box.

A company named ACARD also makes a series of such bridge cards.

It is possible to boot & install from one of these, so I think
that it is good enough.
