| Hello, I have an Ultra 5 Workstation. I have to buy a scsi card (Symbios 22801) supported by Ultra5 but with Symbios firmware (not the Sun's firmware). I can flash the Sun firmware on this card using a PC, but I can't find that firmware :-( Someone can backup it and send it to me, please ? Thanks to all |

But, after some research with google and on Sun forums, it appears that it is really necessary :-( Can someone help me ? Thanks in advance |

I don't think the number 22801 is the chip set. I have a dual-channel Sun original card, 365-0005 (assembly number 348-0036) which has in big white letters SYM22801 - i.e. the same as your card. But the main chip has on it the number '53C876'. As I say, that card is Sun original. I have just checked several systems of mine (Ultra 60 and Ultra 80), all of which use either the 53C875 (single channel) or 53C876 (dual channel). The dual channel chips are all on single-ended boards, the single channel ones are on a mixture single ended and HVD. Hence I believe the comments on this web page http://supportforum.sun.com/hardware...93323cfdfa7bf3 are probably incorrect, where it states those chips will not work in an Ultra 5 unless it is HVD. Of course, I have not tested in an Ultra 5, but I have plenty of those chips working in an Ultra 60 and Ultra 80. I've added my comments on the bottom of that page. This might well be useful to you, since my card with the 53C876 has SYM22801 on it and that card has worked for me and it is the same chip used in both my Ultra 60 and Ultra 80 on their motherboards. -- Dave K http://www.southminster-branch-line.org.uk/ Please note my email address changes periodically to avoid spam. Another part number w/ FCode is listed, but Sun never released that product. I'd expect the generic card would likely work fine. |
