| Just planning my Solaris 10 install on my netra x1 (no cd/dvd rom). I have done this before using an install server. But I do not have a 2nd Solaris machine here, just a winxp box, so I can't create an install server here. I have an ide dvdrom drive here, could I plug it into the secondary ide cable, install to hdd0. After install swap cdrom with the second hdd. Would this work? ~Shea M. |

| I plugged in an LG burner as the secondary master. probe-ide-all shows the device as Device 2, ( Secondary Master ), Removeable ATAPI Model: HL-DT-ST GCE-8320B, on /pci@1f,0/ide@d. That looks correct to me, other than the removeable part. devalias shows cdrom as /pc1@1f,0/ide@d/cdrom@2,0:f boot cdrom gives this: can't read disk label can't read disk label package Can't open boot device. Is this an incompatible drive? Thanks, ~S |

That worked. I guess it just didn't like the burner/dvd-rom. ~S |

After install swap cdrom with the second hdd. I'm told you can do this. A nicer (in my opinion) approach would be to get the free VMware for XP, install a Solaris Jumpstart server in that and jump from that. |
