| two things i noticed in the last few days while battling my old SS10: 1. there is a myth that you do not have to set jumpers on hard disks inserted into a SS10 because the prom will find the hard disks as their ids are supposed to be hardwired. i have read it in this group somewhen. THIS IS WRONG. if you set jumpers the wrong way your harddisks will not be found for installation even if probe-scsi shows them allright. 2. my bootprom upgrade from 2.10 to 2.25 upgraded my machine as well. if i choose to believe the boot messages, i now own a SS20 with 176mb ram. that means: my machine now uses a bootPROM 2.25 normally used for SS20's. and lo and behold, it works. so, by the powers of deduction, SS10's can work with SS20 bootPROMs. I will provide the actual partnumbers of main logic board and boot prom. claus |
