| Anyone out there with these mid-range storage systems ? We have a 2 year old 3960 that has exhibited an inability to reconstruct RAID5 LUNs after a drive replacement. SUN is saying that a T3+ firmware upgrade (we are currently at 2.1.0 on the T3+ units in the 3960) solves a problem with reliably detecting/fixing read errors. The catch is that for the 39xx/69xx the T3+ firmware is released in an upgrade bundle that includes T3, SAN switch, and management processor (msp) software that is unavailable to customers for download. Support has told me its an SE support function to upgrade all this firmware. I have also been told that my platinum support contract doesn't cover it. I would like to keep this system a "3960" and not begin to upgrading individual components seperately. Have you ever done one of these msp upgrades ? Do you do them regularly ? Does SUN do them for you ? I would like to hear your experiences. We are at msp version 2.1.1. SUN wants us to go to 2.3.3. thanks..... |

If the response indeed is to upgrade the firmware, I'd expect, having a platinum contract, that Sun would do it as a part of their engagement (and closing the case). >Have you ever done one of these msp upgrades ? The download page says: "The files contained on this page are designed to load and upgrade the Network Storage Service Processor contained in the StorEdge 3900 and 6900 series product lines. The current flash files are provided so those who are familiar with the flash process and flash servers may set up their own flash server. This process is not recommended for the customer site as it requires extensive configuration of the server. Network Solutions Test & Engineering will not provide support for the flash process beyond guaranteeing the integrity of the files contained here. " There are flash images for upgrading the processor, if you have a flash server you could do it yourself. Please feel free to send me an email if you have further questions.. /Regards Fredrik -- Fredrik Lundholm dol @ ce.chalmers.se |
