| i was running my sunblade 100, solaris 10, 2mb ram, western digital 80gig main drive, scsi seagate drive in addition. suddenly it would not respond to the the mouse and keyboard. i had to turn it off manually in order to try to see what was happening. on a manual restart, it refused to ' boot disk' or to 'boot cdrom', saying the device could not be found; it kept trying for a netboot. 'probe-ide' yields a failure of all ide devices. i tried a fresh start with stop-N held down, and the only difference was a report that the hard drive has a bad magic number. what has gone, given these symptoms? i intend to try another hard drive to see if the drive (a recent acquisition, and new) has crashed. would that also make the cdrom invisible? -- getting out of bed in the morning is an act of false confidence - jules feifer to email me, delete blackhole. from my return address |
