| Is it known when the Blade 2500 system will be available for purchase? Documentation for it seems to be on-line, and it's been talked about for a year or two, but ... it seems to have entered Sun's event horizon. (i.e. you can find lots of info on what the company says it will be doing 2+ years from now .. but as that time gets closer for actually producing something, concrete information becomes proportionally scarcer until the product disappears entirely and enters indefinate limbo.) Anything, really: "Problems with vendor chip X; poor yields; more testing needed; estimated date is X" are all good answers, better than <blank-stare>. Oh well .. one can always pass the time by reading the latest 50 pages of air on what Sun execs think about LINUX >this< week. What's modern hardware compared to that! |

But only to those inside Sun or who have signed the appropriate NDA. :-) > Anything, really: "Problems with vendor chip X; poor yields; more testing needed; > estimated date is X" are all good answers, better than <blank-stare>. I'm a little confused myself. I expected the SB 1500 and SB 2500 announcements to coincide. I think we can also take the delay as a sign that unlike other recent products, the SB 2500 and V250 do NOT share the same motherboard (an obvious way of lowering costs). Perhaps SUn want to announce the SB 2500 with processors that are faster than 1.28 GHz, and they're not ready yet? (ISTR a figure of 1.4 GHz being mentioned a while ago.) Time will tell; hopefully they'll be announced at NC03-Q4. Which hopefully won't be as late as NC03-Q3 was! -- Rich Teer, SCNA, SCSA President, Rite Online Inc.
