| Hello all. I require a bit of help if you all don't mind. I have a SS670MP here running all nice.. with out an OS. I would like to run solaris on it. After a research I think that solaris 2.5.1 would be the best for it last solaris to fully support VME if I am right? I have been a bit confused with reading this group that 2.5.1 may only run in single CPU mode I don't want that. I would like all 4 of my cpu's up and running (4 X 390Z55) prom = ROM Rev. 2.14 is what it lists on POST Will this system run with 2.5.1 with all 4 cpus? Is this my misinformation will 2.5.1 run correct with all cpu's sbus and vme bus? If you need anymore information please let me know. Thanks everyone for all your help Brendan |

Solaris 2.5.1 is fully SMP enabled and will use all available CPU:s. Regards, /Fredrik -- Fredrik Lundholm dol @ ce.chalmers.se |

Solaris 2.5.1 is the last supported OS. I've heard that you can run later versions if you don't actually need VME. 2.5.1 should be full SMP and use all 4 cpus. Even SunOS 4.1.3_U1 could make full use of all 4 cpus; the only limitation was that only a single processor could do kernel work at any given time. Note that some 670's have Ross HyperSPARC processors rather than Sun SuperSPARC. I'm not sure when, or if, support for these was included on the standard Solaris CD. Not an issue if you really have 390Z55. -- Jim Prescott - Computing and Networking Group jgp@seas.rochester.edu School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, University of Rochester, NY |

I am pretty sure they are It's just that I am going to buy this OS from another country and don't want to wast my money. Thanks once again Brendan |

I guess, if SUN4M is supported then SMP, VMEbus etc should be supported Question is, are all _devices_ on your VMEbus supported. -- Alex. |
