| I am reading the Memory page in the SUN Systems Handbook: http://www.sunshack.org/data/sh/2.1/....central/data/ syshbk/Devices/Memory/MEM_SunBlade_150.html Under "Notes" I read: 4. Each DIMM slot addresses 1GB of memory with >=550MHz UltraSPARC IIi. Under "UltraSPARC Notes" I read: 6. The 550-700MHz UltraSPARC IIi addresses 1GB per bank. My question is this, can the SunBlade 150 take 4 x 1 GB DIMMS ?? Thanks in advance. |

| Your question got me to thinking a little more. I checked on www.centon.com and followed the links for the Sun / Desktops / Sun Blade 150 and it does say you can use 1GB DIMMS in each slot for a total of 4GB! However, the Sun site only references 2Gb. Guess I will have to go buy some DIMMs and try it out. |

Today someone quoted me for a HP J6500 with 1.5 GB of RAM, which did not make sense as the dimms have to be installed in pairs and are only supposed to be 512 MB or 1 GB each. Sure enough, he had made a mistake. Of course, it is quite possible the machine was designed to take larger dimms, but there were not available when the manual was produced. -- Dave K Minefield Consultant and Solitaire Expert (MCSE). I suspect that this is along the lines of the V100's and V120's having a supposed maximum of 2GB -- I've have 2.5 GB in a 550 MHz V100 -- the problem is getting 1 GB modules that'll fit in those angled slots on a V100. You really need single-sided modules, but when I was looking into this, I couldn't find any. -- Jeff Wieland |

| After a bit more research -- http://www.sun.com/products-n-soluti...16-4379-10.pdf on page C-18 Sun states: Quote -- The CPU L2 cache megacell reserves a 4 Gbyte region for cacheable main memory. The memory controller only supports 4 Gbytes of space. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Note - Although the cache and memory controller support up to 4 Gbytes, only 512 MB DIMMS are supported on the Sun Blade 150 system. This limits the maximum DIMM configuration to 2Gbytes. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -- Quote So we are only able to use 2GB on the system.
