| I have a SunPCI IIpro (733 MHz) in an Ultra 30 with Solaris 9. When I try to install Windows XP, the SunPCI boots up fine and goes through copying the files from the CD; but when it reboots, it gives a blue screen before getting to the graphical installer. The blue screen gives a "STOP: 0x0000007E" error and refers to sunbrdge.sys (I can copy down the rest of the error message if it would be useful). Has anyone else seen this problem and been able to resolve it? I've read the totally unhelpful articles on Microsoft's support site that mention a blue screen in the installer. Is it possible that my SunPCI card is bad? That would seem strange, since it boots up to DOS just fine. Thanks for any help anyone can give me. -Ben Miller |

Aaah.. thats's why I never succeded to install win2k on my sunpci after the diskcrash.. ..before I used w98.. ...Would be nice if Sun could mention this in the docfiles. |

For example in the Sun PCi 3.2.1 User's Guide, Installing Windows XP Professional, page 38: "Make sure that you have the following media and information available before you begin installation: Windows XP Professional retail installation software CD" It sneaks the word "retail" in there, which by omission of OEM CDs means that you can't use OEM CDs. | My school has some sort of site-licensing deal with MS where they let us download the CD contents for XP, and then give us a key to use with it; so I guess this could be what's messing the SunPCI up. I managed to find a document from Sun about the retail vs. OEM thing, though, and it seemed to say that the reason OEM CDs weren't supported was because they usually had vendor-specific drivers and whatnot on them. I wouldn't think the CD my school is giving out would have anything like this on it, but maybe it's still not the same as the retail version. -Ben Elias wrote: > It actually is in the docs but you have to read the wording carefully. > For example in the Sun PCi 3.2.1 User's Guide, Installing Windows XP > Professional, page 38: > "Make sure that you have the following media and information available > before you begin installation: > Windows XP Professional retail installation software CD" > > It sneaks the word "retail" in there, which by omission of OEM CDs means > that you can't use OEM CDs. > > Elias |

Also, make sure you have the latest version of the Sun PCi drivers. http://www.sun.com/desktop/products/...downloads.html Elias |

But how about other types of CD's ? ..The one I used was a CD obtained from M$ "Academic Alliance" program, and it looks like that was the reason that it didnt work.. But I guess its not a "retail" CD.. still it's irritating that it didnt work, its a CD that could be used on any computer regarding the Licence. |
