| Hi all, If you hate Type 6 keyboards as much as I do, now's your chance to let the powers that be know! Sun has a keyboard and mouse requirements survey available from the following URL until January 22: http://www.zoomerang.com/survey.zgi?...J4KRJGPLCKSWHQ One note, though: there's a typo on questions 6 and 7. Both questions should begin "If you answered Yes to Question 5, ...". Yes this is kosher, and yes I've received permission to post the URL! Enjoy, -- Rich Teer, SCNA, SCSA President, Rite Online Inc. I've seen Sun monitors on fire off the side of the multimedia lab. I've seen NTU lights glitter in the dark near the Mail Gate. All these things will be lost in time, like the root partition last week. Time to die. |

I like Ctrl to be below Shift, and I love the feel of the Type 6 keyboards. Honestly! I imagine you'll also want a speaker mounted in the keyboard so the beeping will be more apparent? Gregm |

Rich, you've done a real service to the community posting this URL. I've given them extensive comments, not just answering their predefined questions. I'll be very curious to eventually find out how well they follow through. Glenn |

I filled out the survey and suggested they be the first to do something the industry has needed for a long, long time, which is to move the Caps Lock key off to some remote corner of the keyboard. I don't think the Caps Lock key is *totally* useless, but its prime real estate position is in no way justified given how rarely it's really needed. If they do so, then they'll have some prime real estate open, and one of the possible uses is to put an extra Control key there, thus (partly) satisfying both the PC layout people and the traditional Unix layout people with a single keyboard layout. Or they could make a bigger Tab key. Anything but this stupid stateful (but with no physical feedback) key located right next to two of the most commonly used keys on the whole keyboard! (Personally, I would like to see a "return" to large, two-row Enter keys as well. But that'll never happen.) - Logan |

Well, remember that this is the same industry which ships with "Numlock on" by default. What is that for? Casper -- Expressed in this posting are my opinions.
