| Hi all...Sun newbie (but some un*x experience) here hoping to get some help... I bought an Ultra 1 on ebay and I'm trying to get it running. The problem is, it doesn't seem to want to boot from CD (it didn't have a harddrive so I have to install Solaris from scratch). I know the CD drive I'm using works, and probe-scsi finds the drive. But when I issue boot cdrom, it goes through initializing memory and then just hangs. The 'busy' light on the CD never comes on (I've let it sit for at least 15 minutes just to be sure). The only thing I can do is a hard power-down. I've even tried mounting the CD in an external enclosure, but with the same luck. probe-scsi-all sees the drive, but boot cdrom just hangs (though I'm not positive that I'm setting up the correct devalias for the external CD - probe returns /sbus@1f,0/dma@1,81000/esp@1,80000 Target 6 Unit 0 Removable Read Only Device TOSHIBA XM-...SUNSLCD...) Any help/pointers would be greatly appreciated... ....Tom |

Try adding the drive and slice at the end like this boot /sbus@1f,0/dma@1,81000/esp@1,80000/sd@6,0:f It looks like you may have mis-typed, so check the result of your probe again, the 81000 looks like some zeros may be missing. My Ultra 1 Creator 3d which is probably a later model has this /sbus/SUNW,fas@e,8800000/sd@6,0:f -- My real address is crn (at) netunix (dot) com WARNING all messages containing attachments or html will be silently deleted.
