| Hi, I have an Ultra 5 with PCI video card (M64 rev 47549a). It works fine with my Compaq V700 monitor but I want to replace this one with a LCD screen. But after I do that the LCD screen is black. I tried m64config with no luck. I don't even see the Sun logo when I boot the machine. I know for sure that all cables are OK and the LCD works fine with my PC. When I reboot the Sun I see the LCD on/off LED turn green for a second ( I think it then tries to communicate with the Ultra 5) but then turns amber and the OSD shows a picture that the connection between the computer and screen is lost. I think the problem is sync problem. The Compaq uses separate sync and I read somewhere that the Sun does too. So I suspect the LCD does not use separate sync. I don't know if I have the latest patches installed, but do patches also affect OpenBoot? Because I can't see OpenBoot does it mean I am a step before the possible patching issue? First I have to get it so far that I can see the machine boot, don't I? By the way the output of fbinfo is: mb64B@2 is PGX 1152x900 (I get this output using the Compaq Monitor) If this turns out to be a sync problem do you know of any converters to make this work? Hopefully you can shed some light on this. Bye, Dick |

This is more of a problem with modern digitally controlled monitors, the older ones with analog internals would often work. -- My real address is crn (at) netunix (dot) com WARNING all messages containing attachments or html will be silently deleted. I think OpenBoot uses a different resolution than Solaris, doesn't it? Dick |

There is usually a different way to set an fcode option to set the res at bootup time. (something like screen:r1280x1024x60 on some cards, but check out the specifics for your card). >Dick |
