| Are there any working drivers for SPARC Solaris for USB network interfaces? I'm running Solaris 8 (yeah, a bit long in the tooth, I know), and I need a second network port, but I don't have a free slot. I do have open USB ports, so I was just wondering. -- Jeff Wieland |

An SBus version is going for $75 on e-Bay and a PCI version for $15. I'm pretty sure it's supported in Solaris 8 but support may have been dropped in S9 or S10. If your NIC os built in to the mother board, I think you're stuck |

If your NIC os built in >to the mother board, I think you're stuck I should have been a bit more specific -- this is in a Sun Blade 1500 running Solaris 8. Right now, all slots are full, with SCSI, second video card, and a SunVideo Plus card (plus the standard XVR-100 and USB-Firewire cards). If I were running Solaris 9 or 10, I could take advantage of the 802.1q support, and connect to the second network that way. I could also remove the USB-Firewire card, since I'm not currently using it, and drop in a Linksys card that I've got that works with Garrett D'Amore's afe driver. But if I could, it'd be nice (how many bad ideas have been launched with the phrase???) if I could use one of the USB ports instead. -- Jeff Wieland |
