| Hi, Im interested in buying a UNIX machine to play around with. I am getting a used Sun Ultra 1 (128 MB ram/ 2 GB hdd/3d creator graphics/ 17" monitor) for around $150 . 1. Is the price right for the machine? 2. Will i be able to use this monitor with a PC running Linux? 3. Any important questions that i should ask the owner before i decide to buy it? Please advice. Thanks in advance Tim |

You will want to add some RAM, though. Fortunately memory for the U1 is not expensive. A bigger disk wouldn't be a bad idea, either. > 2. Will i be able to use this monitor with a PC running Linux? Probably, with an adapter. But once you get your Sun, you'll leave behind that toy running Linux! > 3. Any important questions that i should ask the owner before i decide > to buy it? Does it work? :-) Does the price include a Solaris media kit? -- Rich Teer, SCNA, SCSA President, Rite Online Inc. Voice: +1 (250) 979-1638 URL: http://www.rite-online.net |

The ones with fans were so prone to failures they were replaced free by Sun for a while. What is the CPU speed? 170Mhz? 200Mhz? Is the SCSI bus Fast & Wide? Rob |

It has a Creator frame buffer, so it has fast wide SCSI and 10/100 base T Ethernet. The CPU speed question is worth asking, though. -- Rich Teer, SCNA, SCSA President, Rite Online Inc.
