| I am trying to get an OLD 630MP up and running but my first attempt gives me a blank screen. I used a Sun-VGA adapter to try to plug the output of the Sun GX SBus adapter to my regular PC monitor. But no luck. No output. Just a blank screen. I located another adapter that has 3-dip switches on it labeled 1-3 & On/Off. Not sure what it is or if it is safe to use. Any ideas on using it? Or DIP settings? Unfortunately no name on the thing either so makes it tough. Also have a Sun to VGA cable made by Sun but haven't tried it yet either. Does anyone know if this card is compatible with or able to use a VGA monitor? Also when I hit the power switch I get a beep and some quick blinks of the lights in the keyboard but nothing on the monitor and no other activity. No flash on the CD and just a couple clicks from the hard disk. After that the lighted keys on the keyboard will not light up when pressed. I also noticed the diagnostic LEDs blink in sequence with the last light remaining on, then they start blinking in sequence again. Any help gratefully appreciated. Thanks, Mike |

It has 3 input signal, which is to identify the capability of the attached display. I have it somewhere the settings. I think your switches are to set thoes lines. I remember, that you have to pull the signals to ground. If you have an older 14" VGA monitor or even some older 17", this is probably too high of a scan rate for it. I had an older Sony 17" monitor that couldn't handle 1152x900 at 66Hz. The higher end Sony in this line could do it, but it was also much more expensive (at the time). So, its important to check on what your monitor can handle. Most newer 15" and up models certainly should be able to handle it, but older ones are going to be questionable. -- Doug McIntyre merlyn@visi.com Network Engineer/Jack of All Trades Vector Internet Services, Inc. |

However as some one says elsewhere you may need to adjust the settings for type. On the SparcStation 10 you can set the res in the OpenBoot params. Might be worth trying a terminal emulator. > -- > Doug McIntyre merlyn@visi.com > Network Engineer/Jack of All Trades > Vector Internet Services, Inc. |

I have an old (~9yr old) Micron 17in monitor. It will work with MS Windows upto 1280x1024x75hz resolution just fine. But it will not work with on the Sun system. I'm thinking of trying the adapter with the dip switches, but am reluctant that it might damage my monitor - Any info if this could happen? But for my install, I borrowed a Sun monitor from work and got the system up and running. Any ideas if some of the newer LCD flat panel PC monitors might work with the Sun? Thanks, Mike I gave up and borrowed a Sun monit |
