| Sun offers some Sun Fire x800 w/ USPARC IV CPUs and labels them as x900. Does anyone know if 280R, V480 (or 880/1280) will become series of x90 servers? Is there going to be Blade 3000 workstation??? I believe there is significant difference between USPARC III and IV if using multithreaded applications like database systems. BTW. What is considered to be a minimum configuration for running e-mail server? IMAP/IMAPS/SMTP (Curys IMAP, postfix, spamassasin, sieve), ~800-1000 user accounts, ~150-250MB user quota, 30 000+ messages each day. So far considering 280R w/ 2x 1.2GHz UltraSPARC III Cu, 2GB RAM, 2x 73GB 10k RPM (mirrored, system disk) + external array on FC-AL (two mirrored pairs of 146GB 10k RPM disks striped to give ~300GB for mailboxes and a mirrored pair of 73GB 15k RPM disks for incoming and outgoing mail spools). I know it's probably overkill. -- Mr. Mikael Holm, +358505862479, +358445862479 mikael.holm(a)lut.fi, http://www2.lut.fi/~holm/ Pellonmäenraitti 5 B 12, FI-53850 LAPPEENRANTA |

Right now the following system have been announced: US-III US-IV V1280 E2900 F4800 E4900 F6800 E7900 F12K E20K F15K E25K Maybe we will hear more about others in June during the NC04Q2. V240 and V440 are cheap jokes, really U-SPARC IV CPUs for now. If and when webmail will be offered, two more CPUs may be installed if horsepower need arises. > connect it to a SE 3310 and make one big lump out of it and don't > be concerned with different stripes with different disks for this and that. I was after the best possible I/O and disk bandwidth. Besides incoming and outgoing mail spools can be located on the mirrored system disks (plenty of room if disks are 73GB). How about T3E for disk subsystem? -- Mr. Mikael Holm, +358505862479, +358445862479 mikael.holm(a)lut.fi, http://www2.lut.fi/~holm/ Pellonmäenraitti 5 B 12, FI-53850 LAPPEENRANTA |

You may want to look at the 6120 or 3510 instead. |

Might want to look into CommuniGate Pro for that, it does all that and much much more in a single packet, is easy to admin and maintain. But costs money. -- Barbie - Prayers are like junkmail for Jesus I have seen things you lusers would not believe. I've seen Sun monitors on fire off the side of the multimedia lab. I've seen NTU lights glitter in the dark near the Mail Gate. All these things will be lost in time, like the root partition last week. Time to die. |

You forgot to say it's ported from Windoze. I have been end-user for few years now and i don't like it. For example i could use more versatile filtering (that's why there'll be Sieve available). > But costs money. ....doesn't get any better... -- Mr. Mikael Holm, +358505862479, +358445862479 mikael.holm(a)lut.fi, http://www2.lut.fi/~holm/ Pellonmäenraitti 5 B 12, FI-53850 LAPPEENRANTA |
