| Gents, I have a shop tool that requires a mobile workstation and my TadBook just is too old. Is there any 802.11 b-g series Wifi card that would be suited for use in an Ultra 10? I have never been in this situation and no one in my circle has a clue. My wireless network works fine for the x86 realm. Any ideas are greatly appreciated! I have the Ultra 10 workstation, monitor, cart, battery inverter and charger. Just this little bump in the road. Respects, Rob |

I don't know that the appropriate work has been done to have any wifi cards work on Sparc systems. I don't see any mentioned in the BigAdmin HCL. Since you aren't too concerned with bulk and tidyness, a simple solution should be to use a wifi to ethernet adapter. This would avoid the issues of convincing the Ultra 10 that wifi card X really is an ethernet adapter. One such product is the Linksys Wireless-G Ethernet Bridge WET54G. They retail in the UK for around GBP 50.00. A clumsier solution would be to fire up a laptop with wifi next to the Ultra 10, and have it act as a router / switch. -- Dr Tristram J. | If you do go with the bridge solution, I had great sucess with the ASUS WL-330G http://www.asus.com/products.aspx?l1...&modelmenu= 1 -Raf In article <cwVqj.4992$nG4.1934@newsfe6-win.ntli.net>, Tristram Scott <tristram.scott@ntlworld.com> wrote: > > >Rob Fraser <FraserRacing"AT"RobFraser.Net> wrote: >> Gents, >> >> I have a shop tool that requires a mobile workstation and my TadBook >> just is too old. >> Is there any 802.11 b-g series Wifi card that would be suited for use in >> an Ultra 10? | Still working on the bridge idea (Thanks!!) I also looked at new UNIX Laptops and I think my heart just stopped!!!!! WTF!!! 6K new!!!!! Do any of you use SPARC based laptops? Do you think just stuffing ProE on a Solaris 9 x68 on a spare ThinkPad would work. Pro E sucks on lower performing gear. like 1 01 101 101011001000 barf...... I'm seriously considering loading Pro-E 4.0 using Solaris Express (Beta 11) on a laptop considered a portable workstation. I plan to purchase it from: http://www.polywell.com/us/notebook/PolyNoteC719ND.asp If your serious about it, make sure you get the FX1600 Graphics. This notebook is manufactured by Clevo, they are the OEM and sell it to various manufactures for resale. http://www.clevo.com.tw/en/products/...p?productid=19 or http://www.clevo.com.tw/en/products/...p?productid=18 Paul |
