Default Associations of DCE, threading, versions, and so on.

On what services and libraries can I count?

Here's what I mean: I encounter some 10.x (here's a 10.20,
for example) hosts that lack, for example, any threading
library. In principle, DCE supplies a reliable user-space
threads package, and, in principle, 10.x provides DCE. 10.x
seems, though, not always to install DCE. I'd welcome a
crisp explanation of ... well, the stuff I want to know.
Have I correctly described DCE? Why wasn't it installed at
the factory? Are there comparable "layered products" stories
I should know for 11.x?

In article <vvlsqo883j92ef@corp.supernews.com>, I wondered:

No. Both VUE & CDE can be installed at the same time. Only one of the
login managers (vuelogin / dtlogin) can be used, though, since they will
both attempt to use UDP port 177 for XDMCP.

This has no connection whatsoever to DCE/threads.

You shouldn't be developing on 10.x anyway, as it has been out of support
since 6/30/2003.
