| Best way would be to Ignite the UX box. Go to software.hp.com to take a look. Do, a man on make_tape_recovery (1M). Once tape is made (or archive via make_net_recovery), all you to do is interuppt the boot and boot from the tape device. Should be straight forward (be sure to have latest pax patch though). | Hi cesar > what is the best method to backup a complete system, and how to restore it? > thanks This depends on the amount of data you want to backup. An "operating system only backup" for recovery of the system should be done with ignite (comands make_tape_recovery or make_net_recovery). Be aware, that the basic make_tape_recovery does not include the complete OS. You always have to use the option -A or -x inc_entire=vg00 Ignite is intended only as restauration tool of complete systems. Restoring of single files from an ignite archive is possible, but quite uncomfortable. For data backup and restoring the command fbackup/frecover is intended in hpux. Of course there is a wide range of general unix commands like tar, cpio, pax,... or special third party applications for backups. Best regards, Florian |
