Default CD-ROM for an HP-745i workstation

We're trying to locate a CD-ROM drive for an HP-UX 9000/745i workstation
so that we can re-install the OS and some instrument control software.
As I understand it there are a small number of Toshiba drives that work
as bootable devices on these machines, part numbers XM-3101, 3201 and
3301. Is this actually the case? We tried it with a more modern 12X
Toshiba SCSI drive out of a Sun workstation but that didn't work. If
anyone has one of these drives out of use then we could really use it,
and obviously can pay for it. Just some advice on possible alternatives
would be great as well.

Regards
Stewart

Just 30 minutes ago I solved my same problem with an HP9000-747i. After
several weeks of search I had found Mr. Lutz Krings from Eupen/Belgium.
Totaly fresh in my arms I have 2 drives featuring the 512-byte-mode. My
old NEC- drive wasn't able to read in this mode.

Mr. Krings gave me a:

- Toshiba Model XM-3501B with caddy, missing jumpers, but this doesent't
matter for single ended bus

- Pioneer DR-466 12x with the recommended jumper for 512 bytes

I think both drives will work, the one that leaves unneccessary´could be
yours, I'll report.

Helmut,
fup2 comp.sys.hp.hpux, comp.sys.hp.hardware not exists on my server

Something goes wrong here. I find neither a user's manual for these
vintage_drives nor do they do their job im my workstation.

I always get this message:
IPL error: bad LIF magic

What can I do, please?
Idea\help\any/one/where?

Regards,
Helmut

Better to lay in the right CD in the caddy

Both drives are working well. Which one do you prefer?
