I've no idea if it changes from one release to another, but it is generally a good idea to state for which releases of the OS you seek the information. Some google searching suggested that at least some revisions of HP-UX had information relating to that in the "environ" manpage. There may be related information in the sysconf and getconf manpages. As for what one does if you cannot make the environment variable data longer (I presume you mean the data associated with the envvar and not its name) that may depend - presumably one could start to use more than one envvar, or have an envvar which pointed to a file which had all the information in it. rick jones -- The computing industry isn't as much a game of "Follow The Leader" as it is one of "Ring Around the Rosy" or perhaps "Duck Duck Goose." - Rick Jones these opinions are mine, all mine; HP might not want them anyway... feel free to post, OR email to rick.jones2 in hp.com but NOT BOTH... |
