| -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi, I installed gnome from the HP depot and all worked fine. For a separate reason I had to change the ip address of the system. From then on the screen just shows a blank X background and a cursor and nothing else. I *think* this is because the XAuth file contains information for the old IP address and hence the gdm program is denied access to the XServer. How can I fix this so that GDM works again Thanks - -- Chris Blackburn E-Mail: cblackburn36NOSPAM@softhome.net E-Mail: cblackburn36@NOSPAMgmail.com PGP Public Key: http://makeashorterlink.com/?C2AF31929 -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.4 (Darwin) Comment: Using GnuPG with Thunderbird - http://enigmail.mozdev.org iD8DBQFB3S3JxsNEmi5WofsRAg4AAJ9EvquLcrLj22vrC3pTlI mMbjM+XACgjufk ysxXuOcNjcha/0hmcW3hhSM= =s9s2 -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- |

Is your IP correct in /etc/hosts and any NIS or DNS servers being referenced? |

There is a fixed version of gdm available as an attachment to a reply at http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/f...threadId=68415 It may correct the problem you see. -- - [HP is committed to respecting your privacy.] For more information, visit http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/...e_privacy.html - or contact me at: [mike.stroyan@hp.com or HP Privacy Mailbox , 20555 SH 249, MS 040307 , Houston, Texas 77070] Mike Stroyan, mike.stroyan@hp.com |

Assumingly the $DISPLAY under which the X-Server was invoked is still set to the old IP adress. So my hint: never change IP or hostname resolution under X. Florian |
