SEO

Since a very long time, downloading free software from www.software.hp.com
does not work for us. We invariably get a "Bad request" message in
Netscape and a similar message (in Swedish) in Explorer.

This happens in HP-UX, SuSE Linux and Windows, and it happens at all
the different sites in Sweden that we have tried.

We strongly suspect theat the payment.ecommerce.hp.com site is the
culprit. Any ideas on how to get software dowloading working again?

I had the exact problem with some versions of browsers. Now I am using NS
4.8, the HP version and the error vanished. I do not really know the real
background, though.
I had luck with Opera, as well BTW.

We see this problem on NS 4.7X and on 4.8 from HP (which I use for the
moment) as well as on all releases of Internet Explorer that we have
tried...

This is getting really annoying!

Well, not easy to track down. Some time ago my Netscape would crash on ebay.de, however,

this annoyance has disappeared. I really did not change anything.

Of course this is nothing to accept for you... I honestly don't know.

Thanks for the reply. Until something like a year ago, everything
worked perfectly. Then it suddenly stopped working. Netscape 4.X, 6.X
or
7.X does not make any difference. Windows with Internet Explorer on a
PC
also does not work. And connecting to the Internet from different
universities and other non-academic sites around the country doesn't
help either.. It just doesn't work anymore.

I occasionally use various revs of IE, Netscape, and Mozilla under Linux,
HP-UX, or Win2k to access the site when customers report problems with
downloads or there is a suspicion that the downloaded package may be
corrupt. I do not recall ever seeing a "bad request" error message. Of
course, I've never had my locale set to Swedish.

Have you tried with your locale set to C or English?

Also, have you provided any feedback to the site maintainers via the
provided link?

Neither have we. We always use C/English as language and locale.
During the past 12-18 months, each and every attempt to download
software from www.software.hp.com has failed. This happens for
every release of Netscape and Internet Explorer we have tried
in HP-UX, RedHat, SuSE, and Windows.

To confirm this, I just tested again, using Netscape 4.8 in HP-UX 11.11 and
clicking on the "receive for free >>" button for the Judy libraries on
http://www.software.hp.com/portal/sw...?category=DTDC
Sure enough, this test resulted in the usual error message

"Bad request
Your browser sent a query this server could not understand."

as so many times before...

Yes. We never use Swedish locale, only C/English.

I think so. We have reported this error many times to what we
think have been the approporiate HP links but do not keep records on
exactly which addresses we have used. We will try the link you suggest.
