| Pardon my ignorance, but I can't seem to get the UnlimUserLic patch installed on our legacy HP-UX workstation. Our system is an HP-UX thishost B.10.20 A 9000/879 277045322 two-user license and I would have thought that the following patch applies to our setup: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport...ttT ypeId=110 Still, when I run # swinstall -s /tmp/UnlimUserLic_10.20_700.depot I get "Currently, there are no products on this source which are compatible with the target. Therefore, no products are shown." Do we have the wrong kind of hardware for this patch? -- Jorn-M Innselset |

So it is an 800-Series instead of 700. > # swinstall -s /tmp/UnlimUserLic_10.20_700.depot you should lookout for the 10.20_800-depot instead Florian |

The description on the HP Support Center says "Unlimited User License for HP-UX 10.20 and 11.0 S700/S800", but it looks like you're right about the mismatch. I have to dig further, or perhaps give them a call... jm |

While this goes deep into the dimm recesses of my memory, back in the days of 10.20, the patch descriptions would sometimes list the "other platform's" patch ID. IE an S800 patch would say what the S700 patch would be and vice versa. Also, it was often but not always the case that the patch ID's would differ by just one. So if the patch for one was PHFO_12345 the patch for the other might be PHFO_12346 or PHFO_12344. While the HP-UX sources were remerged by HP-UX 10.20, there were still separate kernels, hence separate kernel patches rick jones -- oxymoron n, Hummer H2 with California Save Our Coasts and Oceans plates these opinions are mine, all mine; HP might not want them anyway... feel free to post, OR email to raj in cup.hp.com but NOT BOTH... |

You might try the swinstall option to force installation regardless of fittness for the found stuff. See `man swinstall` for details. btw: (again, digging into memory) the patch was only needed for terminal access trough serial lines. Network based access (like telnet) was not counted for in the 2-user license. CBee |

| Hi CBee > Network based access (like telnet) was not counted for in the 2-user license. Not really true: The local console is one license, the network is the other license. If you try to login from any other serial console (e.g. modem) and there is a existing login at the local console, the modem connection is prevented by the missing license. Florian |

Even if there is not an unlimited-users license for HP 9000/8xx you probably have a 32-users license in one of the CD-ROMs that come with HP-UX 10.20. I am running 10.20 (unlimited-users license) on a workstation (series 700). I do not know if a 32-users license comes with the HP servers media, but you can try... at most you will waste five minutes. Good luck, Igor. |
