I just started a new job and we're trying to figure out if there's any compelling reason to move to 11i from 11.00 on the PA-RISC architecture. I know 11.00 has been around for more than 5 years now so it only has a very few years left in the life-cycle, I would guess, but that never seems to be a compelling reason for managers. (I was still running a couple of 9.x systems at my previous job and the new employer still has quite a few 10.01 systems in operation, as I've been told.) If we plan to migrate to Itanium at some point, 11i will be a requirement. Aside from potential future architecture concerns, is there really much to 11i that isn't in 11.00? Pointers to documentation is fine. Not having much luck searching for relevant information via Google. -- Jeff Traigle traigle@si.umich.edu http://www-personal.si.umich.edu/~traigle/

Take a look at this, not to much. But the key to us was being able to dynamically tune some kernel parameters. This is not available at 11.0. At 11i +, a limited number of parameters are tunable on the fly. More are being added. http://devrsrc1.external.hp.com/STK/hpuxoverview.html ryan

> compelling reason to move to 11i from 11.00 on the PA-RISC architecture. I Hello, I dont' know everything but: -swinstall and sw* are more careful with software dependencies under 11.11 (better patch management) -secure shell random generator is not available under 11.00 -11.00 end of sale: mars 2004. End of support: 2006. -11i is 100% compatible with 11.00 applications (no recompile, etc,...): see SoftwareTransitionKit. -Superdome work only with 11i. I think vpar is only supported on 11i. -you can migrate from 11.00 to 11i. You dont' need to reinstall everything.
