Default mediainit: can't open file.........Device busy

Dear
I am trying to initialize a new hard disk Seagate ST12400N on HP 715/50
Workstation with HP-UX 9.03.
If it type the
ioscan -f command

For instance, on my system, for a disk at SCSI ID 2, the relevant output
line looks like this:
Class H/W Path Driver H/W Status S/W Status
================================================== ===
disk 2.0.1.2.0 scsi ok(0x202) ok
if I typediskinfo -v /dev/dsk/c201d2s0
or

mediainit -v /dev/dsk/c201d2s0
commans
in both cases the output is

can't open file /dev/dsk/c201d2s0 - Device busy

can you help me?
Michele

run an ioscan without any options after you restart in s mode, then do
an insf -e. Then do an ioscan -nkf and see if it is UNCLAIMED for the
driver. If it is then check the driver it needs. Otherwise it should be
fine, do a diskinfo on the raw device and it should tell you what it is.
BTW I dont think 9.x realizes there are disks that big?? why so old?

Dear Alan
I use this old system because it is connected to an acquisition system, and
we have the license only for it.
I know that it is old.
I have done a ioscan -d on the device
and the answer is :
Device driver /dev/dsk/c201d5s0 is not in the kernel.

What shell I do?

you have to use mediainit on the raw device (rdsk), besides that the
only thing I can think of is that it is an unsupported disk, been a
while since I worked on 9.0x

Dear Alan
The problema that I don't have the directory rdsk under dev dir.
The disk is supported by HP, I have also upgrade the sistem putting the
patch PHSS_5776 in order that the system is able to see the hard disk.
How I can create the rdsk under dev dir?
Thank you
Michele
