| I moved my server 20ft. and when I tried to bring it up I have warning lights on the front. I look at the back and the NIC light shows "orange" for the status and the activity light is blinking. The LAN guy hooked a tester up and the cable is good and the switch it is in shows the port is good plus he can see the other servers on that segment. I moved 3 servers and this one is the only one not coming up. I tried to GOOGLE for "orange status light" but nothing. I thought I would try here. I will call HP after a bit. Robert |

If you search for your server model on docs.hp.com, it can give you more explanation on the front warning light. Is the system booting and inaccessible via network ? or it is not booting at all ? AFAIK, in 10/100 NIC cards amber status is collision or degraded speed. On 100/1000 NIC amber status is 1000Mb setting. --vishwas. |

I am guessing the system is booting but I can only connect via console and I cannot ping it over the network. However in console I can only get to the GSP prompt. Nothing has change except its position on the data floor. I am going to try a few things (I am leaning toward the NIC crapping out) but I will check back here for any suggestions. Robert |

Almost as if the machine checked for a link, didnt find one, and disabled the card. This has happened to me more than once, on a K460. |

For whatever reason, everything came up after that. Weird. Robert |

If you can only get the GSP from the GSP/MP then it suggests that something besides just the NIC may be hosed. You may need to make sure that all the discs are seated correctly and that the I/O cards and DIMMs haven't come loose. Might also need to make sure that the cover remains firmly seated as there is a lid/systempower interlock. rick jones -- The computing industry isn't as much a game of "Follow The Leader" as it is one of "Ring Around the Rosy" or perhaps "Duck Duck Goose." - Rick Jones these opinions are mine, all mine; HP might not want them anyway... feel free to post, OR email to rick.jones2 in hp.com but NOT BOTH... |
