| My two cents: I had a similar problem installing 11i on my c3000. No matter what I tried, the core would dump and the machine would lock or reboot when trying to install. It turned out that my keyboard was to blame. I had a keyboard/mouse device (touchstream lp), which seemed to confuse the kernel. When I bought a $10 usb keyboard, the problem was solved and I was able to install the OS. I'm not sure what you have, but if you happen to have a keyboard that has additional features (unless it came with the hp, I guess), then try out a simple one to see if that helps. Best of luck, Tony G.
