| I am trying to recover a system that was configured with two disks to a system configured with one larger disk. the initial system did not use LVM. I made a recovery system on the initial system and I am trying to recover it to the new system with the one disk. The interactive ignite-ux utility is telling me that the disk is too big and I need to configure using LVM, but there is nowhere to do this within the menus and it will not proceed until I do so. Any suggestions? |

| Boot from the ignite tape. If you did not use the -i option during creation you have to hit a key some time to get in the menu. Choose install ->advanced and there you can change disks, lv's, ip nr's and other stuff. | Jim, I believe I can help you. Once the system boot from the Recovery tape, interrupt so you can interact with Ignite. I don't remember the precise text of the prompts that you will see, but hopefully I'll be close enough. Choose "Install HP-UX" and on the next screen, choose the radio button for "Advanced Installation Options". I believe that you'll even see a tip that this is what you must choose for logical volume and file system changes. Okay, it sound like you've already gotten this far... I think the key to what you want is an item labeled "Additional Configuration" or "Additional Options" or "Addtional SOMETHING" and it appears in the lower right-hand corner of the screen when you're in the File System tab. You should be able to make the necessary configuration changes once you get into these "Additional" whatevertheyares. Hope this helps. | Hello, can someone be more specific please. I had the same problem. Original disk : HFS without LVM I want to put my recovery tape back on another disk. Problem : Disk is to big to format as HFS (more than 2048 Mb). Indeed, there are advanced options in which you can chose to make the disk VxFS with LVM, but then the system tells me that it can't boot from VxFS because it needs a HFS partition for the /stand to boot the kernel. So, in either of the cases, I'm stuck. I need to create one HFS partition for the /stand and VxFS partitions for the other partitions. But the ignite-tool doesn't let me do this. PS : I'm talking hp-ux 10.20 on a HP9000 workstation Thanks, Frederik "Stew Weis" <stew@montanaace.com> wrote in message news:jIanb.221$ss.5424@bcandid.telisphere.com... > Jim, > > I believe I can help you. > > Once the system boot from the Recovery tape, interrupt so you can interact > with Ignite. You need /stand to be hfs and everything else can be vxfs. Ignite _does_ let you do this. Somewhere (either the filesystem or LVM screen), you can select the /stand filesystem type and you simply change it to hfs from vxfs. Good luck, Kevin |

You can change a modepage inside of the disk to reduce the shown and used size down to any number you need. urle -- Uli Betzler (urle) urle@rz.uni-karlsruhe.de Universitaet Karlsruhe, Rechenzentrum IRA/VERA/SR, Zirkel 2, 76128 Karlsruhe phone: +49 721 608-4039 FAX: +49 721 608-9013 alternate FAX: +49 721 32550 urle = URL-Emanation = http://www.uni-karlsruhe.de/~Ulrich.Betzler/urle.html |

| Hi, that looks great ! do you have any idea how to do this (change the modepage to reduce the disk) ? | Are you absolutely sure of this ? You can do this (modify LVM options and change /stand to HFS) when you do an install from an ignite server. But personally, I think the recovery tape options are more restricted. I went through all the tabs and I didn't find it, or maybe my ignite version is too old...
