IMPACT: Potential remote denial of service. PLATFORM: HP-UX releases B.11.00, B.11.11, and B.11.22 running wu-ftpd. SOLUTION: Install replacement ftpd file or disable ftp write access. MANUAL ACTIONS: Yes - NonUpdate Install replacement ftpd file. AVAILABILITY: The files are available now via ftp. ----------------------------------------------------------------- A. Background This potential vulnerability has been publicly reported: <http://www.kb.cert.org/vuls/id/743092> Note: The vulnerability report above mentions a problem with realpath(3) in addition to the wu-ftpd problem. The realpath(3) supplied with HP-UX is not vulnerable. Only the wu-ftpd is potentially vulnerable. AFFECTED VERSIONS The following is a list by HP-UX revision of affected filesets and the fileset revision or patch containing the fix. To determine if a system has an affected version, search the output of "swlist -a revision -l fileset" for an affected fileset, then determine if a fixed revision or the applicable patch is installed. HP-UX B.11.22 ============= InternetSrvcs.INETSVCS2-RUN fix: install ftpd.1122 or disable ftp write access HP-UX B.11.11 ============= WUFTP-26.INETSVCS-FTP fix: install ftpd.1111 or disable ftp write access HP-UX B.11.00 ============= WUFTP-26.INETSVCS-FTP fix: install ftpd.1100 or disable ftp write access END AFFECTED VERSIONS B. Recommended solution Install replacement ftpd file or disable ftp write access. Wu-ftp may not be present on B.11.00 and B.11.11.
