| Hello, I'm currently having some interventions to perform on a HP 9000-7xx (with HP-UX 09.05) with a strange card I don't manage to configure. The card spare number is A3422-40 (nothing about this card on http://hp.com : It has a 25 pins connectors that looks like a big AUI connector. I have an Y cable plugged on it with to outputs : a (true) AUI one and a serial one. On the AUI connector I could plug an aui/rj45 transceiver and I have the network work fine. My problem is : I need a second serial port and I only have one port embedded on the motherboard. I'm trying to use the one on the Y cable on the adapter from Mars, hoping it can multiplex serial and ethernet signal (but I'm really not sure of that) Did one of you see such a card ? Do one of you know how it can be configured (which /dev file drives that ?) is it possible to have the serial and the network working simultaneously ? thanks for your attention... F.Bessalem |

Hmm, if the 7xx is a 712, then your description sounds like the old 10Mbit/ Ethernet/Serial combo "dog bone" card for the 712. Searching around interally, I was unable to find any references to an A3422 I came across referneces to an A4013A which was an add-on serial port for the 712 (of course now long discontinued...) I also came across a reference to an A4217A, which adds a second monitor port and Ethernet. I'm not sure what the connector looked like for that, but you might look closely at the chips on the card to see if any of them look like they might be graphics chips rather than serial port chips. The card I'm thinking of was an A4014A, "Second Serial with LAN" There are still some docs on the 712/100 online - follow the hardward manuals links from docs.hp.com through the HP workstations links. hth, rick jones -- oxymoron n, Hummer H2 with California Save Our Coasts and Oceans plates these opinions are mine, all mine; HP might not want them anyway... feel free to post, OR email to raj in cup.hp.com but NOT BOTH... |
