| I have read several articles on VPAR requirements. They say minumum requirement is 1 CPU. Ooes that mean a single CPU server cannot have vPAR's, a 2 CPU server can only have 2 VPAR's. I have also read that VPAR can only be created in HP UX 11i, does that mean if I have HP UX 11 server with 2 CPU's, I have to first upgrade it to HP UX 11i. Thanks a lot, Prem |

Yes. > I have also read that VPAR can only be created in HP UX 11i, does > that mean if I have HP UX 11 server with 2 CPU's, I have to first > upgrade it to HP UX 11i. Yes. You may also want to make sure that your server hardware supports vpars. rick jones -- Wisdom Teeth are impacted, people are affected by the effects of events. these opinions are mine, all mine; HP might not want them anyway... feel free to post, OR email to raj in cup.hp.com but NOT BOTH... |

Ooes that mean a single CPU server cannot have Obviously, to run something in a vpar you need at least 1 cpu. A cpu can't be shared between 2 vpars. Same applies to PCI slot: until end 2005 a slot belong to only 1 HPUX OS instance. Idem for internal scsi, lan,... And with vpar, when you want remove a PCI card you must power off the complete server (or npar). Until now OLAR permits you only to add or replace card, not remove it. |

The general idea is that with a 2 CPU system, you could have 2 vPars, each with one CPU in the partition. On a 4 way system, you could have 2 partitions of 2 CPUs each, or 2 partitions of 1 CPU each and 2 floating CPUs, or... you get the idea. > I have also read that VPAR can only be created in HP UX 11i, does > that mean if > I have HP UX 11 server with 2 CPU's, I have to first upgrade it to > HP UX 11i. HP-UX 11i is the minimum OS revision needed for vPars, and so yes, you will have to upgrade to 11i.
