That probably means: your monitor doesn't know how to handle the synchronization (most likely sync-on-green, and about 1280x1024x60Hz or so). Alex |

I really wonder what gfx Your C180 has since all gfx cards of these days had EVC which looks similar like today's DVI... > Was i > surprised! did'nt work, just got some crazy lines all over the > screen. Well, You didn't mention the gfx card or the model of monitor You're using, but this effect can be because the card actually is set to a resolution/refresh rate Your monitor can handle. All cards that work in the C180 do separate sync just fine so it't certainly not a sync-on-green-Problem. What You need to do is to set the gfx to a resolution Your monitor supports. If You switch on the workstation watch the keyboard LEDs (the ones for NUM LOCK, SHIFT LOCK and SCROLL LOCK). If the keyboard gets initialized these LEDs flash up for a short time. When they flash up immediately press the TAB key and keep it pressed. The machine now cycles through all available resolutions/refresh rates and holds everyone of them for several seconds. If the monitor is able to sync to one of these resolutions You'll see a message stating to press ENTER to keep this setting. Benjamin |

I currently use an AST Vision 7L monitor. Hope this helps. Regards John Goodwin |

I can't see the problem. We had several C360s on monitors that definitely couldn't handle Sync-on-Green... What gfx does Your C360 have? Benjamin |

I believe the FX6 was the 'top' graphics card. My Compaq monitor failed to display anything other than crazy lines skimming across the screen, on any resolution offered by pressing TAB. Plugged in the AST Vision 7l and all was OK. Superb stuff, now I have Gnome running fine. Makes me feel more at home now, since I am used to a Linux Mandrake set up ;-) regards John Goodwin |

Hard to say from distance, maybe Your monitor just had another problem that wasn't visible. > Plugged in the AST Vision 7l and all was OK. Superb stuff, now I have > Gnome running fine. The Ximian GNOME 1.4 that's downloadable from the HP-Website? I once tried the Ximian GNOME from HP but it felt a bit empty. And I had problems with the command line login function of the login window. Would be great if there would be a working(!) port of a current KDE or GNOME (one without the useless linux options like laptop powermanagement) for HP-UX but sadly I haven't found one. But then, I also tried GNOME on IBM AIX 5.2 which comes with the operating system. Doesn't work at all... Benjamin |
