| Howdy, I've downloaded the DVD.iso (Fedora Core 3) actually loaded onto a server and NFS mount the install and boot via a boot.iso image instead of burning DVD and boot/load local goes through installation OK, no errors. go to boot and it stalls at stage 2 of grub no splash screen and nothing.. tried minimalising grub.conf and still no joy. Pentium III/800Mhz standard PC in all respects. any help?? I guess I am too bleeding edge. Ouch. Can you reboot with the rescuecd.iso in "rescue" mode, in order to be able to probe things? Also, the new kernels with new OS releases always seem to wind up with bugs on a few oddball motherboards, and believe me, a lot of servers have *strange* motherboards. > tried minimalising grub.conf and still no joy. > > Pentium III/800Mhz standard PC in all respects. > > any help?? I guess I am too bleeding edge. Submit a bug report at fedora.redhat.com, and include the actual motherboard. I went through this sort of fun and games with old DEC, I mean Compaq, I mean HP this week, systems and finally gave up on the old pieces of dreck. |

| Hi All, I have had some success and at least it boots. options on kernel (grub.conf) apm=off acpi=off (Hardware was VIA chipset - Pentium III/800Mhz, Tyan1854 MB) One of these is probably default in any case but I was more concerned to see if my installation media is OK instead of whether I make this particular machine work. Installed on my prime machine no problems and also dual boots XP Pro no problems. regards, Bruce ----------------------------------------------------------------- In article <41902f0f$1@news.unimelb.edu.au>, labman@ecr.mu.oz.au (Bruce Robertson) writes: > Howdy, > > I've downloaded the DVD.iso (Fedora Core 3) > actually loaded onto a server and NFS mount the install > and boot via a boot.iso image instead of burning DVD and boot/load local > > goes through installation OK, no errors. > > go to boot and it stalls at stage 2 of grub > no splash screen and nothing.. > > tried minimalising grub.conf and still no joy. > > Pentium III/800Mhz standard PC in all respects. > > any help?? It works and is stable compared to 64-bit FC2. My only problem is, when I have 5 as default run-level, it stops booting at "configuring kernel parameters" step. But when I give 3 as the run-level, it boots fine. Still trying to figure out what's going wrong. GVK |

Let us know if you fix it. And yes I could boot from the rescue cd. |
