Default Best distro for use on a flash drive?

Hello all,

I'm trying to set something up, and being a linux noobie, I need some
help! What I'm trying to do is install linux on a 2gig flash drive
that can do sftp and samba. I currently have 4 hard drives I want to
put into a RAID 5, but since I can't boot from that, I don't want to
buy a whole other hard drive, especially if all its doing is file
serving.

Soo, is there a distro that isn't too ridiculously difficult that I
can set up a raid 5 (most likely through mdadm) and file serve from a
flash drive?

Thanks,
Brian

Greetings,

I am not sure if this will meet your requirements, but I read somewhere
that DSL has a small enough footprint to install on a flash drive.

A 2GB flash drive is pleanty of room to install almost anything.
Anyway, MCNLive is a Mandriva 2007.1 CD distro which can be put onto a
flash drive, and can be altered to include your desired stuff. Ie, Not sure
if it includes a raid 5 drivers, but you could install them. ( actually it
does include the standard Mandriva 2007.1 kernel, 2.6.17-13mdv so it
probably does include raid 5 drivers.)
You burn the cdrom, boot with it, install your changes, and then run script
from the menu to create a flash drive installation of the new system.
Remember that you do not want to be writing constantly to flash drive as
they have a limited number of burn/erase cycles befor they die.
