Default Can I link a USB digital cam to /dev/video0 and will it work?

Hi there,

I am trying to find a program to let me use my digital camera for my live
cam website. After installing xawtv, it looks as though it's looking for a
videocamera (/dev/video0). Is this a simple matter of linking /dev/video0
to a USB port? (And how do I know which /dev port the USB camera is on?
There are many listed.)

And if anyone has any better ideas for software, I'd appreciate if you'd
tell me.

Many thanks,

Swedey (on Fedora Core 2 w/ an ePhoto CL-18 camera)
