| I haven't been able to install Fedora Core 4 from either CD or DVD. At some seemly random point during the package installation, the installer returns a fatal error. I've checked the install log and the error is either that some file wasn't found in the archive or that the check-sum didn't match. I verified the check-sums on the iso images before burning and I've checked the disk for errors during the install process. I've swapped the DVD drives and tried installing to different partitions and hard-drives. The failures have occurred after installing a few 100MB to over 2G. I did manage to get a "minimal install" to work, but then couldn't figure out how to get it updated with everything I wanted on the system. If anyone has any suggestions on what else to try that would be appreciated. Or possibly how to get a full install from a minimally installed system, I'm somewhat familiar with using rpm, but not enough to figure out how to automatically select all the dependent packages and use it to update the kernel with the appropriate drivers for the system. thanks. At first, I partitioned the drive using LVM. It would install for a minute or two and then abort with a fatal error. So, I deleted the LVM partition and created a normal primary partition, instead. After that, the install went fine. So, if you are using LVM, delete it and create a normal primary partition. |

I had somtimes ago a similar problem: the RAM was faulty. Did you check yours? Try memtest86+ (you can find it on the web both floppy and cdrom version. -- François Patte UFR de mathématiques et informatique Université René Descartes http://www.math-info.univ-paris5.fr/~patte |

Have you ever had an OS working on there? |
