| Here is what I have: NEC Versa 2435, P133/48MB Ram, 2 GB HDD and 1.44 FDD, no CD, but a parallel port Zip 100 drive is available. The ethernet card is a Linksys Etherfast100 (AsixBroadcom chipset). The Suse installer likes it and my PCMCIA chipset fine. I in no way expect to, nor really want a GUI at this time, I just need a commiand line linux that does Perl (5.8), CGI, and Apache, accept PPP connections over the serial port, and ethernet with my PCMCIA network card (for connection through my broadband router). When I try to install Suse 8 (with FTP from the internet), it gets to the point it wants to load the root image, but refuses to due to insufficient ram no swap space on the HDD, which I cannot cofigure to that point). I need a distro I can install via FTP, or at least over the network from my XP or working Suse 8.1 box, or at very minumum, off a zip disk or two. I do not want to dowload a complete distro only for the command line portion. I also want one that will configure and format the HDD directly, not a UMSDOS based one. |
