| Hopefully the subject caught someone's eye! I finally got Debian installed, although with some problems. First off, my "particluar" network card isn't recognized (Netgear FA311), so I could not get it installed. Of course, since I can't get the system to recognize the fact that there is a network card, I can't get it to do updates via apt-get from the internet. This brings up another issue, if I download an app such as Wine, can I burn it to a cd on my XP Pro machine and install it it on the Linux box? If so, I have looked for a way to access the cd-rom from within Linux, but it isn't cooperating either. (it's pretty much my fault, no doubt) Or, (and here's the tricky question) Should I re-install everything? I had to install Win98 just to be able to load the Linux files from a CD, then run the boot program from DOS. I must hjave gone the long way, but it seemed to work until you get to the no network card part (apply Murphy's law -here-). I did my reading prior to the install, and I tried (hopefully) to install the proper version (bf2.4) since it was supposed to have the latest drivers for things such as network cards etc. as well. It is also a very good possibility that I screwed up somewhere along the way during installation. I am an old dog, and these are new tricks. <G> Any help would be greatly appreciated. Even a point in the right direction for some additional reading material. DPRoberts |

I know I could have googled that myself, (and I may have, just not in those terms), but my fingers were all googled out by the time I posted the original message. Thanks again! -- DP Roberts |
