| I recently upgraded my laptop (Compaq Armada 7790DMT) from Red Hat 7.3 to Fedora Core 3. Under RH7.3, the ESS1878 sound chip was supported by the sb driver; IIRC, I simply ran sndconfig, and it was recognized as Sound Blaster compatible, and that worked fine. Under FC3, there is an ESS1878 driver, but it won't load -- it says "no such device". The sb8 and sb16 drivers don't work, either. I can't run sndconfig -- I gather it is no longer supported, and the one that's installed on my machine right now is just what's left over from RH7.3. I tried explicitly setting module options to force it to use the proper IRQ, IO address, etc., all copied literally from the BIOS config, to no avail. Is the FC3 ESS1878 driver broken, or am I missing something? - Thomas |
